''From a victim's standpoint, the punishment doesn't even begin to equate to the magnitude of the crime,'' said Costas. He said he resented a justice system that placed Protti in a facility where she could have a boyfriend and complete her high school education -- opportunities that were denied his daughter.
''You can't replace your child so you think about that all the time,'' said Costas, who said that he worries that Protti remains dangerous to the public. ''The emotions and the public safety -- we lose on both counts.''-Arthur Costas
Here's what the dissenting Parole Board Officer Victor Wisehart said:
"Bernadette remains a danger to the public and is in need of further treatment to address her inability to control her anger and impulses.''
Wisehart referred to a recent incident during which Protti demonstrated ''anger and a lack of impulse control'' in a confrontation with her boyfriend at the Youth Authority school.
''I hate to think how she would have handled the incident had she been on parole and able to arm herself and stalk again another victim,'' Wisehart said.
''She has a hidden trigger that anyone can pull just by not giving (her) what she thinks she should get in a relationship.''
So scary that she was released in a 2-1 vote. In those days there was pressure on the Judicial system to rehabilitate especially youthful offenders. Also the cost of housing inmates definitely went into that decision.
I can't believe they went against the Costas' wishes. They were failed by the police investigators they were failed by the courts and the parole board. Jeannette should really just now be getting out. A seven year sentence just wasn't adequate in this case. This was a horrendous crime. Kirsten suffered immensely.
Thank you for keeping this miscarriage of justice alive and before the public. Hopefully, keeping her identity before the people and not letting her hide from her crime will save a life prevent another family from suffering the same grief as the Costas family
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't see this information necesary, has she commited another crime like it?You should leave her alone.
ReplyDeleteNo. Jeannette Tomanka (Bernadette the Butcher) is a lying murdering psychopath and the public needs to be aware of her.
DeleteI think “the public “ should be worried about you.
DeleteI agree. She has not committed any other crimes and was 15 at the time. Leave the woman alone..
DeleteThe public is aware of her. She went to jail and served her time. I’m sorry you don’t agree with her sentence, but it’s not up to you. Some people commit crimes and NEVER go to jail. Kristen Costas was probably a nightmare who wouldn’t give any of you the time of day. I don’t get it.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't care less if Kristin would have thought of me as garbage for not being as whatever as her, SHE DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE FOR IT. The fact that you can assault the character of a child who committed no crime, a victim of a violent, stalking crime to be exact, is disgusting to me. I hope the world NEVER lets Bernadette forget Kristin. I was actually bullied quite mercilessly, and while I frequently thought of harming myself I NEVER seriously considered hurting the bullies, much less murder them. By taking such horrific action against Kristin, who I've no idea whether she was a saint or not, Bernadette made sure that she will NEVER stand up to any of Kristin's qualities. I am 1000% against bullying, but once tough take this level of action against someone all bets are off. Yes she is free, and I hope the memory of Kristin is kept alive in her face forever more.
Delete*you (not "tough")
DeleteKirsten wouldn’t give Idiots like yourself the time of day, still no right to murder her even if she was a night mare that was uncalled for.
DeleteAren’t you nice and classy? Making fun of someone’s nose? Too bad God didn’t give you decency.
